An Update, then An Update, and Finally an Update

April 20, 2008

First, weigh in. I weighed in at Smart for Life at 262 – I’m essentially at 65 lbs. lost. Pretty snazzy. I’ve got to admit, though, the weight is getting tougher and tougher to drop. I’m wondering if this plan has run its course with me, in terms of effectiveness. My body really needs different stimuli to “shake things up,” and I think that 5 months on S4L may be the max for it. Believe me, I love S4L and would recommend it to anyone. But as you read so often, “No diet works 100% of the time,” and you need to do the ol’ “Shake things up” thing.

Second, Eat Stop Eat. My jaw almost dropped to the floor when my wife said, “yes,” she’d do it with me. So we’re doing the fasting thing as a trial. We’re starting today at 6 PM, and not eating again until Monday at 6. Wish us luck! I’m also hoping that combining this with S4L will be the “shake up” thing I need the next few months. I’ll update how it went tomorrow night.

Third, Turbulence Training. I’m back on it as of today. I’ll be going to work out this afternoon, marking my return to my original schedule of 2 heavy days (Sunday and probably Wednesday) and 4 light days each week. Don’t want to burn myself out! After a few weeks, it goes up to 3 heavy days a week. Can’t wait for that. Seriously!

How is Eat Stop eat going?

    Hey Craig –

Thanks for visiting. Started @ 6 last night, so no dinner. Last night was fine. Am a bit hungry this morning, but nothing I can’t handle. We’ve got plenty of water, tea, coffee, Coke Zero, etc., around here (although I’m restricted from drinking too much caffeine because of my gout), so I don’t see any problems with lasting until 6 PM and dinner today.

P.S.: To all of my readers, Craig is a great leader for the whole Turbulence Training movement. He’s very supportive, especially with being extremely active on the bulletin boards at his ttmembers.com site, and he’s just an all-around good guy. He posted here, right? ;)

    Bob,

The Eat STop Eat sounds similar to the Warrior Diet http://www.warriordiet.com/

I looked at the Eat Stop Eat website and didn’t find much in the way of details.

How would you compare these 2 eating plans?

    DR –

I’m barely conversant on ESE, and I don’t have a clue about the Warrior Diet. So what I’ve done is post a request over at ttmembers.com for help. I’ll let you know what they come up with.

    Thanks for asking.

Well, I heard back on the boards. What’s even better, I heard from the author of ESE himself, Brad Pilon:

Both programs are based on the benefits of fasting. The main difference is, the Warrior Diet is a little more lenient that Eat Stop Eat, and Eat Stop Eat is a little more flexible than the Warrior Diet. (How’s that for confusing?)

The Warrior Diet is more lenient because it allows for small meals during the fasting period, whereas Eat Stop Eat calls for nothing but calorie free beverages during the fast. Also, the Warrior Diet is 18 hour fasts, whereas Eat Stop Eat is 24.

However, Eat Stop Eat is more flexible as you only fast once or twice a week, whereas with the Warrior Diet you fast every single day for 18 hours at a time.

I have tried the Warrior Diet and found it difficult to maintain long term. I know of some people who have enjoyed the Warrior Diet approach, but I was only able to keep with it for a little under two weeks before it started getting in the way of my lifestyle (lunch meetings etc.)

    Hope this helps,

    Brad

All in all, I think this is a balanced view provided by the competitor of The Warrior Diet. But as I’m discovering, Brad is just a good guy overall.
