My Vlogging Hero
November 7, 2007
I was at a Web 2.0 conference last week for my main consulting gig, and had the honor of briefly meeting the man who is now my hero when it comes to video blogging (vlogging).
His name is Gary Vaynerchuck (woo hoo, I spelled it right!), and he’s your host at Wine Library TV. I won’t go into his story here, as you can read all about him at his site. But is is an impressive one.
Putting on my old TV producer hat, I’d say I really like his style. Lots of energy. A good sense of humor. Love the “sniffy sniff.” Expert at his coverage area. Good interaction with his off-camera (usually) helper.
What’s more, I’ve actually learned a lot about wine from his vlog. I’ve always known just enough about wine to be dangerous, but now I’m much better armed.
I’m brining this up because I wanted you all to know the kind of style I’ll be bringing to my vlogs. I probably won’t be as, um, ah, what’s the word, “energetic” (yeah, that’s it) as he is. But there will be a lot of personality backing up the facts and opinions. If there weren’t, I’d be just like most of the vloggers out there: lackluster and boring. (Except for this guy, of course – WARNING: Not Safe for Work [NSFW] language at this link).
The reason why I bring up the Web 2.0 conference is because of a comment he made during his panel. He said he was more subdued in his first 50 or so postings, and he was just getting okay traffic to his videos. But when he really amped up his presentation, his views went up exponentially.
So I’m going to take away that from his talk and apply it here. When I’m ready to start this whole video thing, you’ll see a professional host who is energetic, opinionated and (hopefully) sidesplittingly funny. I promise you I’ll never actually say out loud the word “sidesplittingly.” But I may make up other words for the English language along the way.
